Introduction
Imara is a digital management platform for Savings and Credit Cooperative Organisations (SACCOs) in Uganda. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, store, and protect personal data when a SACCO uses our service. This page is maintained by Imara to answer common privacy questions about the platform.
What data we collect
To deliver the service, we collect and process:
- Member names, National Identification Numbers (NIN), and photos
- Member phone numbers and contact details
- Savings, share, and loan records of members
- Staff details for users who manage a SACCO on the platform
Why we collect it
We collect this data solely to provide SACCO management services — recording members, savings, loans, and shares, generating reports, and supporting day-to-day operations of your SACCO.
How we store it
Data is stored securely using encrypted cloud infrastructure. Some data may be processed on servers outside Uganda. Where this happens, we use providers that apply safeguards at least equivalent to Ugandan data protection standards.
Data sharing
We do not sell personal data. Data is only accessible to the relevant SACCO and to authorised Imara platform staff who need access to operate and support the service.
Your rights
Members and staff may request access to, correction of, or deletion of their personal data. To make a request, contact us using the details below and we will respond within a reasonable time.
Data retention
We retain data for as long as the SACCO continues to use the service. After a SACCO closes its account, data is deleted on request, subject to any legal record-keeping obligations.
